Description

SH2-174 is an ancient planetary nebula located approximately 1000 Ly's away in the constellation Cepheus.  There is some disagreement among astronomers however whether this is truly a planetary nebula or is a cloud of dust and gas being ionized by the progenitor star which is the small blue star in the blue area of the nebula. Sh2-174 is currently listed in the Simbad astronomical database as a PN.

In this image the Ha exposure was combined into the red channel and the OIII exposure was combined into the blue channel.
